NOVEMBER 13 1917. Letter from Edith. Bottled a quart of apple-juice and cleaned up the pantry a little. As Hanson's have moved, I begin going 3 blocks for milk. At Red Cross we packed our Christmas packages for soldiers. Pulled threads in one side of tablecloth. Knitted. 1918. Mopped all but bedroom floors and put big rug down for winter, baked bread, and mended. Walked to town in P.M. Letter from Sis. Fine sunny warm day. Put tucks in little long cloth dress. Got our M. W. & Co. order from Tjaden's in eve - bargain remnants, etc. 1919. Canned 5 1/2 qt. carrots, and 1 of carrot pickles - my last canning, I hope, for this year. Made Hilda dark red felt (?) moccasins for everyday, and finished embroidering her coat collar and cuffs. Went downtown as it was a fine day. Bought baby book for Mary Lydia. 1920. Laid abed till six so had a busy day. Dressed a chicken, baked bread and rolls; after dinner mopped linoleums, etc. Hans took Frank to 2:20 P.M. train at Elwood, to go to Sis'. We unpacked M.W. order. Took two pictures of Frank. 19
