December 6 1917. -20° and quiet. Ironed some, baked oatmeal cookies, lined front screen door with pasteboard. Began crocheting Vandyke border on hand-woven linen doily. Dried clothes off line and put them by stove upstairs to dry. We churned 4# butter. 1918. Nice mild day. Haven't pep enough yet to accomplish much. Cut off pattern of little circular dress and did all machine work on a long-cloth one cut by it. Finished crochet-edged h'dk'f. Letter from Constance. Hans home once for supper. 1919. My train about 2 hrs. late at Slater, where Victor Riley met me. Roped trunk & baby cab to Ford, drove thru Huxley as fresh snowfall made roads bad. Got to Riley about 4:00 A.M. Visited and got acquainted with little Marie. Florence and I did baby washing, etc. Sent cards to Hans and momma. 1920. Hung out a ten days' washing before 11, and it did not freeze. Hans and Harry both plowing. Hilda has another cold. I let down my Hoover apron, as it shrunk. We made out small Sears order. 19
