DECEMBER 25 1917. Baked a pie for the bachelor, and a pumpkin pie for us. Hans made lacto. G.H. Atwood, '16 (I.S.C.) came from Fosston in time for one o'clock dinner. Olga and Helena sent towel + pillowcases, Aunt Jennie $2. Got bunch of letters and cards, Atwood gave us fine dresser set. Andy Peterson here in evening and we played 500. Lit tree again. 1918. Baked pumpkin pies and last pie from Minnesota mince meat. For dinner also had potatoes, beans, roast chicken + dressing, gravy, and Christmas candle salad. Steamed fruit pudding for supper. Just we four here - August + Helena and us. Mild day, but cloudy, in P.M. We walked to school monument in P.M. and around Univ. Played "Rook" with August's new deck. Got h'dk'f + letter from Sis. In box from home were gray calico for a dress, material for little petticoat, glass, mayonnaise dish + ladle; and little comb + brush set, and blue-darned towel from Helen. 1919. A quiet Christmas. Helen gave me paper hand-bag, Leslie, box of stationery; Mamma, material for dress; Sis sent photo of their younsters, bib, stockings, and dress of Beatrice's for Hilda. Her grandmother sent her shoes + me silk hdk'f. I finished Hilda's rompers, and began embroidering collar for [Helen?]. 1920. Hans was sick so we stayed all night at his folks. Harry, Oscar, + Amanda came to our place to do chores. Hans' mother gave me big granite roaster, little aluminum pint cup, Amanda a comb, Helena a pitcher, Olga a small casserole, Hans a cake pan, scissors, and doughnut cutter and Harry pair of scissors, too. Olga's came back for roast goose dinner. We rode home with them, getting here at 4. Snow + east wind most of day. Cards from Mamma and Hazel Grimes. 19
