MEMORANDA 1917. Home at Elmenhurst Farm till June. "Camped' in country near Bogley, Minn. most of June and July. In Bogley with Hans who is teaching agriculture in schools, the rest of year. 1918. Hans accepts county agency of Clay Co S. Dakota in Jan, and leaves Bogley Jan. 14. 19 stay till last of Feb., visit in Iowa, and keep house in a new bungalow in Vermillion, S.D. the rest of year. We mode a Ford trip of 800 miles to Iowa the first of October. 1919. Hilda was born April 4. We made Ford trip to Iowa in early June. We spent week at S.D. State Fair in Sept. We rent a farm for next year, and left Dakota in Dec., Hilda and I to spend winter at Elmenhurst Farm - 1920. We began farming on Old. Whitney's 200 acre farm 6 miles from Maquoketa, Iowa, the last day of February. A very busy year, with hired help costing us over $1000. Crops good, but markets slumped suddenly and exceedingly. 19
