JANUARY 4 1936. Girls did most of my work. Flu tablets removed my aches but upset my digestions so I got no sleep till midnight. Lyle Tompkins + wife, her brother Benskin + fiance here to see about our farm. School again. 1937. Cut up head and cooked it. At noon decided to go to Dyersville + have broken tooth pulled - a major operation taking Dr. Barry more than an hour. Drove home. Miserable. 1938. 24°. Wrote Herman + Hans. Put away Christmas tree, decorations, etc. Began making second half of a four patch quilt my mother started. 1939. 46° Rain most of night and till noon. Katheryn helped wash. Took nap- Began reading "The Citadel" by A.J. Crowin. 19
