April 5 1936. Cold. More snow. Hans home in forenoon. Felt unequal to going anywhere. Mrs. Keys taught my S.S. class. Read in "Reading the Tiger". Wrote Dora & Augusts'. 1937. Cloudy. Ironed, mended. Hans got letter from Washington to file qualifications for job with U.S.D.A. He mailed airmail reply. Eldon Maxwell is removing I.M. Varnish. 1938. Colder, but up to 4° in P.M. Wrote Hans & Pauline & Otto Miller. Darned. Took nap. Letters from Herman & Hans. Signe drove, & I went with her to Stoughton. 199. Packed 2 suitcases for Hans then half hr. before we left, I decided to go to Dakota too. I drove to Belmont, then muddy gravel to Ill. Spent P.M. & had supper with Amanda's. I milked 3 cows! Stayed over night at the folks. Got stuck by farm gate. 19
