July 8 1936. Hotter still. We only do the most necessary work. Crocheted. Attended Ladies' Aid at Jennie Maxwell's. Hans came at 1; he took 3 days vacation. 94° 1937. Kathryn & I left Madison at 4:30 A.M.—Most pleasant time to go home. Helped girls can 4 pt. peas - K & I set up her quilt and I quilted a little. To Breneman's to see 2 wks. old boy. 1938. Couldn't sleep so wrote Hans at 1 A.M. After 4 hrs. sleep, I picked and canned 3 qts. raspberries and 1 of jam, canned 4 qt. peas. Napped. Cut & made most of Kathryn's batiste nightie. Worked among flowers till dark. Letter from Pauline. 1939. Kathryn worked in berries most of day & I drove for her to deliver at Cornwell's & Schwab & Schwarz. Baked bread and cake, varnished rest of my floor & a chair did some cleaning & cooking, etc. Letter from Hans & Dora. First kohlrabi. 19
