SEPTEMBER 3 19 Missed assembly to work on dem. which [E.L.?] and Signe gave at 9:30. College photographer took picture of them behind scenes. Visited stock barns. Arthur got watch for market lamb. Girls' awards P.M. We got a white ribbon on dems. 19 Frank began getting milk at Brandt's. Peeled a lot of apples, canned [illegible] qt. Signe made short kitchen curtains from old white ones. Finally got [illegible] in my bedroom. Helped Hans copy expense accts. Riley's and Hodley's here for supper. Heavy rain. 19 Baked peach shortcake. Hans home soon after noon. He, Frank, Elsie and I left at 2:30. Supper at Levi Maxwell's in Dubuque. Called on Miss Aitchison. Slept at Earl Maxwell's - Frank at Norman Miller's. 19 Signe and Velma got 2 chickens at Adler's which I dressed, then went to S.S. and church. HOT. Tried to rest, then we went on picnic to Waubeesa Beach, near Bentley's cottage. Too windy to go boating. Hans got home at 6 am from Mpls. with Velma Skott. 19
