DECEMBER 27 34° at noon. 1936. Up at 5:30, got breakfast for 10, except waffles, which Hilda made. Amanda and family left for home before 7:30. Dorothy Kline only one in my S.S. class. Hans sick from 4th vaccination shot. 1937. Georgia took us to "Cannonball" at 8:18 in their '37 Oldsmobile. Helen to spend day at Evanston, then to Pittsburg to Nat'l Music Teachers' Convention. On N.W. train I read half of "Upper Mississippi" by [blank]. Hans met me at Madison at 12:00. We had Rev. and Mrs. Barber out for supper. Fresh roast pork from farm. 1938. -6°, coldest yet. Hans worked with pump jack most of day. We went to notary public to sign papers for sale of property on Tremont St., Davenport. Baked bread, roasted duck. Mr. and Mrs. "Wallis" Procknow, Virginia, Beverly June and Eunice May here for supper. 1939. Big washing. Hilda hung some outdoors. Hans and I made our first call at Hulett Hallock's. Dan and Ruth and Wayne Weideman here in eve at com. mtg. Began "The Patriot" by Pearl Buck. 19
