Editorial- ________ WE ALWAYS have so little to say in an editorial. Nasty habit, too, for what with the other mags having long editorials, we should follow the rule. But - darn it! we just don;t have anything to say, or ver' little. We have little to say this time. THIS ISSUE is an improvement over the last as far as material goes. A 100% improvement in my opinion. What with Eastman, Gilbert, Fischer, Fortier, Washington, and Wynburn, how could it fail to be an improvement!? When in search of someone to do a column for JINX, we thought of some of the old timers, but then, too, we wondered if some, like ourselves, wouldn't like to see someone who was little known to the column. Our attention focused to Ray Washington, Jr., who when not involved in being a genius, is our bosom pal. (Past: if you haven;t seen SCIENTIFUN yet, send 5 cents for # 2 to Live Oak, Florida, in care of Ray, o' course.) We think he handled it quite capably, and for that reason, we are giving him three or more pages next issue. NEXT ISSUE we'll have Washington's column, another story by Curtis Carlyle, and - we hope to get Juffus to continue his "scribblings". There is some doubt about this letter, so-hold yo' hosses and pray. The usual departments will be in there sluggin', and "Dream Dust". Limited to one page this time, will be expanded and will covor 5 or 4 pages. LAST ISSUE, thankfully, nothing not with complete disapproval, The most popular feature was divided between "A Standard Rating Scale" and "Dissertation Upon Nothing". The knight cover received its share of praise. There was one thing, however, that met with a concentrated disapproval - the use of green ink. This issue we've dispersed with that, and have kept black ink throughtout. IMPROVEMENTS next issue will include a more careful handling of the page numbers. We didn't get any wrong this time, but we had 'em in the wrong corners of the page. Next issue you;ll find the page number in the unstapled corner of the page. As for our department headings, they will be improved; illustrations will be scattered throught the mag, and the habit of the o's that caused so much trouble (the way that they kept falling out in the middle) will be remedied. "s'promise." OUR fORMAT hasn't been definitely settled yet; in fact, it will remain continually flexible to permit room for advancements. WE LIKE US, do you? JINX PRESS --- ____________ JINX --A quarterly publication, distributed through the Fantasy Amatour Press Association, and available to oursiders for 10 cents an issue. FANART -- Issue whenever the editor feels the urge to do so. Devoted entirely to drawings by the best of the fan artists. 10 cents an issue. Back numbers available: #2 only. ENDYMION -- The elite fiction magazine of Dixie Press Publications, to which the two above-mentioned mags belong. The first issue will be 50 pages in length, will be mimeod on 24 !b. bond in 6 colors, full page illustrations to each story, lithoed covers, and will sell for only 15 cents. It is still in the dummying stage, but will be ready for publication in, or before, June, 1942. POLARIS -- When Paul Freehafer announced the death of his weird fanzine, many groaned and bemoaned its departure. Now Polaris is coming back. Freehafer has no connections with the new Polaris, however. The new editor will try to maintain the high standard that Freehafer has set, but will change the policy slightly. There will be some fantasy used in each issue, but as in the past, the accent will definitely be on the weird. The 1st issue under Jinx Press will appear in the next mailing. Watch for it! STF HASH -- Elsewhere in this mailing, you'll find the 2nd issue of this little FAPA publication. Hash started out to be a fanzine devoted to cullings & clippings from the fan press; stuff that never appeared in fanzines due to lack of space, or the lack of the fanzine's appearance. Now, it's liable to bloom into anything. Witness this issue for proof o' this. * * * * * * * * * * We had no room left in STF HASH to say this that we say here: The poems by Paul Wynburn are not, definitely, hash. They were accepted for JINX, but were crowded out, as were poems by Raymond Washington, Jr., and Fred W. Fischer. The latter two will be presented in "Dream Dust" in our next issue, along with other poems. * * * * * * * * * * * Ah! there's just room left to tell you all of SOUND!OFF, and when you do — don't forget to let Josephus know exactly what you think of JINX. * * * * * * * * * * *
