which stories in the pros are worth reading calls to mind New Fandom's "Top of the Heap." Incidentally, in my system of romanurmerals, 19 is XIX not ixx. (A thousand pardons, effendi!--ed.) THE GOATHERD'S fan-fictive bits are enjoyable. One on eeee was the cream. Koenig I read in the FAPA mailing. Why take up valuable space with this, which so many of your best readers get in the R & C? (TOP is supposed to be out before R&C, and therefor new to everybody, but it just wasn't this time. My fault of course. Anyhow there's plenty of Fanfaroaders who never heard of Fapa. And whaddya mean by "best readers"? Sounds snobbish to me--ed) Goldstone really tears into Milty... Rothman, of course, was wrong and admits it in making that blanket statement about Pegler, but it scarcely warrants the gale that LG is blowing. I have remarked to same faned, that it's exceedingly bad policy to make an uncomplimentary remark about a fan you haven't had occasion to mention before, because chances are it makes you his enemy for life. The purple question needs clearing up. As I understand it, the minute you hear of ghughuism, your soul recognizes it and cries out, and becomes dyed a deep purple. Nothing wrong with that. Since the trade with the lower regions has ceased, souls are about as useful to men as their appendixes, and having them dyed a deep purple is nothing to bother about. My soulectomy was bungled and now a loose piece of is flaps around after me wherever I go. It's worse than a hangnail. However, by prayers, fasting, and incantations, I have been able to drive the purple out, and replace it with a pretty Fooblue--ed) ".....merely reported the facts.... the truth...." Peace, it's wonderful if you can be dead certain of something. But I have about the same opinion of a person's belief in "facts" that I have of a person's inner content with his personal religion. It may be pleasant, but objectively it ain't worth a hoot. (You're snarling at the wrong carcass, Juffus ol' boy... I can be dead certain that Doc reported the facts about the Boskone because I was there. You are confusing what we talked about with Doc's mere narration of what we talked about--ed) Hearty applause for Lowndes' flayment of Miske for the latter's remarks anent Rosenblum. Schmarje's remark does sound funny, but I'll swear, if you start counting up, you find that nowadays the relative rank of fan writers according to quantity of material appearing is very different from their rank in popularity polls, as well as their total record of writings. (Naturally, the longer a fan has been active, the more chance he has to have a long record in Swisher's files, regardless of how active he is right now.) Incidentally, Schmarje has half a dozen times or more made unauthorized use of my favorite exclamation, "Gad!" The fact that I got it from Major Hoople doesn't alter the situation. Since you gave LRC "The Ark of the Covenant", you might care to note that he was roading it at the dinner table when Milt and I were down there last, while I was looking at Calise Chauvonet and listening to Milton explain to Nancy ditto that Available Jones is the fans' idea of
