The Strangers Say: Editorial With this issue, FANFARE picks up headway. with fourteen fans already behind it, and more to come, it can't help but go places. I refer to THE STRANGER CLUB, the newly organized fan group in eastern Massachusetts. Instead of promising great things, then failing our word, we are going to start off modestly and let the magazine speak for itself. However, we should have the co-operation of you outside fans in order to build it up to a worthwhile publication. We feel that it will be one of the best, as our club will be one of the best. We are not looking for profit, nor do we hardly expect to break even right away, but the more subscriptions and material we receive the better we can make FANFARE. Although subscriptions are very welcome ---to put it mildly--- material is wanted even more. All those sending in usuable material will receive a free copy of FANFARE in which their effort appears. all material will be criticized and passed by the entire STRANGER CLUB, before it is used, so it must be of reasonable quality. We want articles, features and stories that are out of ordinary -- not only in subject matter but in the writing itself. In a few issues we would like to. adopt the slogan: FANFARE -- The Fan Magazine of Quality. That will depend on the material received. Big names do not matter. Quality does. If you have never written for a fanmag, if you have something good, send it in. We can then say we discovered you. Of course we don't want to scare the big names away, or imply that they are no good. But we want to encourage the fan as much as possible. We are starting off rather unpretentiously with twelve pages, but if FANFARE is favorably received, and a few subscriptions come in -- plus enough suitable material, there is no reason that we can't keep increasing the number of pages per issue, every issue, indefinitely, until we have the biggest and best fanmag in existence. A reader's department will take care of the first increase, so. write in your comments - favorable or adverse. And no matter what the increase, the price will not be raised, as long as it is a club publication. Ads will be the standard fanmag price. Full page $1; half 60 cents; quarter page 35 cents. Small ads, 2 1/2 per full=length line. We are willing to trade ads, and also the magazine, on an equitable basis. We leave the definition of ''equitable'' to you, fellow fanmag editor. If you honestly think your magazine is much better than ours, say so, and we'll give you double your money's worth. That is, we'll trade you two FANFARES (not the same issue of course) for one of your publication, or give you a double-size ad over the one you give us. Of course, we wont stick up our collective noses at padi ads from s-f dealers, etc. Another word about material: Send in anything you like. There'll be no holds barred in FANFARE. The only stipulation we make is in regard to ''fact'' articles. the articles must have the true facts
