Madle, Eugene Jorgensen, Jack Speer, Bill Zimmer, Mel Schmidt, Tom Hinmon, Olon F. Wiggins, Karl Roehm, Dick Kindig, Fred Whalen................................................. IS YOUR NAME ABOVE? If it isn't, then shame on you for two weeks, because you haven't contributed to THE fan poll on fantasy authors, conducted by Arthur L. Widner Jr., Box 122, Bryantville, Mass. Just jot down our ten favorite fantasy authors in order of preference, and mail them to him on a postcard. There have been no less than 107 different authors mentioned in this poll with 63 votes received and tabulated. A great variety of preference has been shown, from Hoy[?] Ping Pong, to Omar Khayyam and Baudelaire. Here's how the first ten rate at latest report. 1- Weinbaum 314 2- Campbell-Stuart 306 3- Smith, Edward E. 267 4- Merritt 210 5- Love craft 191 6- DeCamp 175 7- Wells, H.G. 167 8- Williamson 135 9- Keller 131 10- Taine 103 LOOKING OVER THE FANMAGS (continued from page 6) FANTASCIENCE DIGEST--This is the jumbo fanmag. No less than 44 pages in the Second Anniversary issue, which is the latest I have. Standout is Lee Gregor's story THE MUSICIAN, which is better than a good many appearing in the promags. Such fan and luminaries as Rothman, Horning, Moskowitz, Kummer, Farley, Winterbotham, Warner, Madle, and Reinsberg, make up the bulk of the writing, and mostly all good stuff. Cover by Baltadonis, while not too distinguished behind a line of ZZZZZZs. You can get FD from Robert A. Madle, 333 E. Belgrade St., Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. THE ALCHEMIST--Here's a new pub that is going to make the rest of the field sit up and take notice. Half the usual fanmag size, and double the usual number of pages, it is easy to read, and a pleasure to file. With the second issue it has gone from heckto to mimeod print and hekto illustrations. cover and illustrations done by Roy Hunt, and once they have the hekto process down better, it will be the best illustrated fanmag on the market. Very good material, with an inclination toward the weird side of fantasy. Send to Lew Martin, 1258 Race St., Denver, Colorado. THE ROCKET--from Walt Daughtery, 1039 W. 39th St., Los Angeles, California. I haven't read any of this yet, but it deserves mention because of the exceptionally neat format and mimeoing. The ads and illustrations are also well done. (continued on page 17)
