ON THE SPACE LINER By James V. Taurasi Illustrated by Louis Maurino An old tramp space liner was slowly making it's way from Luna to Mars. It's hull was rusted and only 1/3 of the ship had an atmosphere. The rest being to the cold of space. On it's side, barely visible, was it's name and number, Terra [illegible] Queen-E.22. It was what remained on the one time super liner, Terra-Queen. Now old and almost useless it ran freight between Luna and Mars. It carried only five passengers, though it still had room for thirty people. Persons didn't like to trust only lives to an old rusted liner. Only persons who had to travel between the planets adn did not have enough money to take the regular liners, took this pile of junk. Aboard the liner there was a great excitement. One tank of fuel had exploded. Air was leaking in through the ripped side plate. it was lucky that the fuel tank has contained very little fuel or, the results might have been worse. As it was three of the crew of ten were dead and four others injured crew members to the central room. the only room now holding sir. "Sparks," the Captain yelled to the radio man, "send out an S.O.S. at once." then to one of the crew,"Put on a spacesuit and see if you can repair to ripped side." "Yes sir," answered the man, and getting into his spacesuit, he went out of the airlock to see what could be done. *_*_*_*_*_*_*_*_ Captain Bob and Koso, resting a few days on the Moon, were in the radio cabin when the S.O.S. came in. They at once volunteered to take the job of rescue. "O.K. boys," answered the Moon commander, "take rocket ship S.M.9. and three of the boys and hop to it. A few minutes later they were in space following the carrier wave. For hours they ****************************** *James T. Taurasi needs no introduction to you for he is well known in the fan field. So, we present to you Two of his stories of the BOB&KOSO series. A bit unusual, but th is an unusual mag. But we are sure you will like his stories, no doubt. *************************** followed the carrier wave. Then without warning it stopped. Bob worked on the radio for minutes hoping that it would start again, but it remained silent. "Guess their radio gave out," stated Bob, "now how in the name of heaven are we going to find them?" "Why not have your friend Koso, try to read their minds and find the spaceship that way". put in one of the Navy men. "Me try him long time ago, but no can read, mind to far away," came the thought of Koso, "me keep trying." Minute passed, while the ship kept on in he same direction as before. "me gotum now. His set broke. They have plenty air and food till we come. They worried maybe we no find them. Tryus fix his motors but no can do." Two hours later, under the directions of Koso the ship was found. The crew, passenger were transferred to the Navy ship and [illegible] liner was blown up so as to clear the route of he [illegible] liners. An unmanned ship like that might mean the death of some future liner. Koso was the one who got full credit for the rescue. But Koso did not know of it for days. The mental strain of reading a mind a hundred miles away proved too much for the martian here and as soon as the ship had been found, Koso had passed out, not to come to, for days afterwards.
