Coe took the lead form the start and was never headed. The first half ended with Coe on the long end of a 19 to 7 score. Iowa Wesleyan is having a most successful season. The Methodists have won every game played this year. In "Pinkie" Green, all state forward for two years ,Wesleyan has a forward who ranks with the best in the state. Harshbarger, a high school teammate of Green's is playing center. Hazeltine, a former Ottumwa high star, holds the other forward position and with Green as a running mate this pair makes a fast forward combination. Statistics on conference scoring in basketball games places Brown of Iowa in third place. Wilson, the Illini center is in first place, with 41 points to his credit. Kingsley ranks second with 34 points. Brownie is but one point behind the Gopher center and the remarkable feature of the Iowa guard's record is that he has thrown but five field goals. His other counters were registered by the free throw route. Oss, forward on the Gopher five, is in fourth place with 32 points to his credit. Chances are looking somewhat better for the Iowa track squad. Jack Watson is more eager than ever to have the boys working in preparation for the spring meets. The veteran trainer hopes to win another state title out of Ames' hands. This week's basketball games have helped to get a line on the real conference contenders. The Maroons, Gophers, Purdue, and Illinois seem to be in the running for the top positions although it is too early to make any predictions in the way of a championship quintet. Simpson college has sent out invitations to 16 high schools of southeastern Iowa to compete in a sectional basket ball tournament to be held at Indianola March 7 and 8. Most of the high schools invited have accepted the invitation. Simpson and Iowa Wesleyan will play the final night of the tournament. Carl Johnson, star track man of Michigan, is already setting things afire with his track work. He has shown up all local competition and Michigan followers are looking for him to take individual honors at the conferencet. mee Baseball practice has already begun at Madison. Coach Kent has issued his call for candidates and is eager to get his men at work as soon as possible. Fifteen men from last year's squad are in school. Northwestern is figuring on the Big 10 football title now that Bachman, former Notre Dame star, has received the appointment as head coach. Ames is making elaborate preparations for the Iowa-Ames basketball contest. Jack Watson says that Ames has been making these preparations for the last few years but that the Aggies have not been elaborate enough. Missouri is in the lead for Missouri Valley honors with four victories and no defeats. Nebraska ranks second with three wins and one defeat. Ames is in fifth position having won two and lost three tilts. Creighton defeated Drake at Omaha Friday night in a one-sided basketball game. The score was 32 to 7. Davenport downed the Little Hawkeyes Friday night in a fast contest by a 10 to 14 score. The last two games have proved disastrous for Twogood's five which fact means hte Red and White will have to improve considerably if they are to down the Tigers in the return tilt.
