PAGE FOUR THE DAILY IOWAN, STATE UNIVERSITY OF IOWA Saturday, May 17, 1919 SENIOR WOMEN PLAN TO CARRY ON EVENT INAUGURATED IN 1919 Plans for Senior Women's Week Are Announced--May 20, 21 and 22 Big Days PROMISE BIG MYSTERY DAY Senior Girls Not to Be Recognized As Seniors Who Do Not Wear Caps at May Breakfast Any senior girl who does not wear her cap Tuesday morning at the May breakfast can not sit at the special table to be arranged for senior women, but must take her place with the underclassmen at the other tables, was the ultimatum decided upon at the senior women's meeting Tuesday. It is thought the wearing of the caps for the three senior days will unify the senior women and promote better class spirit. Today is the last day for ordering caps, and class officers and committees declare that it is imperative that every senior woman report at Bremer's for measurement if she has not already ordered her cap and gown. Lawn Party at Currier Senior activities in general will begin this week end with a lawn party at Currier in the afternoon and the All-senior mixer Saturday night at the women's gymnasium. Senior women's festivities are to be concentrated into three days, May 20, 21 and 22. The senior women's breakfast in connection with the annual Y. W. C. A. breakfast will initiate the program and it is then that the seniors will appear for the first time in the tasseled, black caps which will distinguish them for the respect and honor accorded their graduation from our school. A senior sing is about the only event especially provided for Wednesday because the Y. W. program for seniors comes that afternoon and the Hep-Zet play is scheduled for the evening. The sing will take place at 7 o'clock. "Profs" Don't Count Thursday, formerly announced as Mystery Day, has been set apart, it is intimated, as the day of revelry when classes don't count and grades and "profs" don't matter. A committee has been appointed to arrange for a picnic luncheon at 11 o'clock. The place of "picnicking" was not decided. Senior women's week was inaugurated by the class of last year and the women of the 1919 class are determined that they will "carry on" and make this event an institution. Indications are that they will be even more successful in effecting a close organization and genial get acquainted spirit, than did their predecessors. PLAYS WILL APPEAR AT SUMMER SESSION For the first time, the University Dramatic committee has arranged entertainment for the summer session. Heretofore, lectures and musicals have been frequent but no plays have been given. July 11 and 12 the Devereaux company will present three of the following plays: "The Taming of the Shrew," "She Stoops to Conquer," "Romeo and Juliet," "The School for Scandal," "Love and Geography" and "Arms and the Man." Prof. E. H. Lauer, chairman of the dramatic committee, says this company ranks with the Portmanteau Players. This is their first western tour, ordinarily they play at all the big eastern colleges. They are engaged for two weeks at Columbia by invitation. The price is to be nominal. The committee hopes that these dramatic events will fill a long felt want. If any one who will be here at that time has any choice of these plays, Professor Lauer will be glad to have him consult the committee.
