Tuesday 9:50 P:M: (January 24th 1939) Dear Family: - A brief note of interest follows. Tonite the active members of Iowa Alpha honored me by voting me in to the office of steward. The job carries a stipend of $25 per month. It will allow me to drop my board job and the cleaners job. It looks as if we may be able to swing both jobs in the direction of Jimmy George, a fine fellow whom Bob & I liked so much at the Quad last year. The Phi Psis have been trying to pledge him for a year but he hasn't seen his way financially to so do. Possibly, this will provide the means. The boy who had the job (stewardship) last year state that he would be unable to continue school unless he could retain his position. He belongs to Wakonda in Des Moines and everyone seemed
