January 29th, 1939 Dear SB. It has been my intention to make a response to your fine long letter of last week, butthe day and evening have almost flown, and I write this note to send the saw-buck that you requested. My general correspondence has been suffering from lack of attention for some time and I must get back to normal this week, as I shall be out a few days next week on some meetings for the bank. At this season, the National Farm Loan Associations are having their annual meetings, and it has been the custom for the bank to send a representative to answer questions and to submit information on bank conditions, etc. I am scheduled to be at Clarinda on Tuesday afternoon. North English on Wedneeday and at Grinnell of Thursday. Perhaps I can run over to Iowa City Wednesday evening and stay the night there, if there will be some opportunity to commune with you. Last evening we three attended the Iowa-State Creighton basketball game here. Rex Moore, one of our fieldmen, living at Ames, got me a couple of annie oakleys from the coach, and Geo took a bleacher seat. I met the whole squad at the Fontenelle, and walked with Menze a piece as they were taking their limbering jaunt about six o'clock. As you probably noted, Ames was beaten. The Robino, Roh, Shaw combination was in good working order, ably assisted by Kittleson. You will recognize several old friends on the program. This evening mother and I went to the Town Forum and heard one of the most interesting discussions of the season. Professor Overstreet of College of City Of NY spoke on "Our Democracy. Where is it going?" or something like that. Good discussion. Huge crowd and many standing. Hundreds turned away. Also enclosed is an Ad-Sel news giving a brief summary of Will Durant's talk two weeks ago. Will try to write to you more fully later this week. Love Pop
