[February 18, 1939] Feb 1939 Dear Family: The short speaking tour with Anderson turned out to be a huge success. Our company consisted of Anderson, Harris (line coach), Glen Devine, Mike Enick and myself. We spoke in Mason City Mon. evening, Independence Tues noon an Cedar Rapids Tues. evening. We all had a fine time and, of course, got to know each other quite - all to our mutual satisfaction, I am sure. I am forced to repeat that the more I see of Anderson the better I like him. Harris, also, seems to be a fine fellow although a pretty tough looking customer. I trust his selection of a back-field coach will meet with a similar approval. Anderson is supremely confidant but not overburdened with a sense of self importance. He has done well and he knows it; he is undoubtedly proud of his past record and plans to continue it.
