3 The job of rodman for a surveying unit appeals to me very much. That is the sort of thing I should like for this summer - a job that is outside and mildly invigorating. That sounds a little choosy but there is no harm in looking for what you want. Most people would think a normal, conservative, rugged American youth would make a fine house companion for an aging grandmother. He would be a sort of protection - a watch dog, more or less; also a handyman - one to mow the grass and spade the garden, etc. But a boy schooling himself at Iowa and playing that bestial game
