IOWA STATE COLLEGE MEMORIAL UNION AMES, IOWA April 27, 1939 Mr. Nile Kinnick [Sr.] 5024 Hamilton Nebraska Dear Kinnick: Congratulations to you and to Mrs. Kinnick. Your son, Ben, yesterday demonstrated that he is doing a swell job of following the fine pattern you made on this campus a few years ago. In winning election to the Student Board of Directors of Memorial Union, he lacked just two votes of polling the largest total polled by anyone in yesterday's election, which was by far the largest we have had in a long, long time. Over 2100 ballots were cast. I am happy indeed to know that Ben has been elected to our Student Board, which means he is also a member of the official Board of this corporation which includes 12 alumni, 10 students, and 6 faculty members. If Ben continues in college and keeps his scholarship in good repair, he will continue on this Board until he graduates. That is a most pleasing prospect for me. Please understand that membership on this Board is no empty campus honor. This Board is now the most important body on the campus. Several campus leaders have suggested the abolition of the old Cardinal Guild since this Board does all the important work. However, I personally think there is still room for both organizations. But in any case, you and Mrs. Kinnick have good reason to be very proud of Ben. Sincerely, Harold Secretary HP:A
