May 2nd, 1939 Dear Ben: Pleased to have your letter yesterday, and shall not attempt to make an adequate reply, but write this note to enclose a temporary remedy for your impecunious condition. You should write me wore details of your requirements from now until the end of the college year. How providential that you should encounter Nile and Bob. I spent the night with them in Adel, but didn't know it until Saturday morning; a circumstance that they no doubt told you. If you will give us Bob King's address, we will know where to call him about getting the car. Also, we should prefer that arrangements be made to get George down to Adel on the Saturday, instead of leaving him for your friends to look after until Sunday afternoon. Perhaps Larry or someone else will be up, and can give him transportation. Please look into that possibility What time to you and Elsie plan to drive to IC, and is she going for certain? And the party down there is Saturday night, isn't it, the 13th? Do you plan that Bob King and George should come over to Ames on the morning of the 11th? We had a nice letter from Pride, and we shared his satisfaction on your election. Nice going. One remark in his letter was of considerable significance, however, I quote, "If Ben continues in college and keeps his scholarship in good repair, he will continue on this board until he graduates. That is a most pleasing prospect for me. Underscoring is mine. Don't let it get you down at any time, but never lose sight of the first reason that you are entered the institution. If the corner stone weakens, the whole structure is endangered. I know that you are aware of the point mentioned, but it seemed a good spot to put a little emphasis on it. Love Pop
