Mr. Nile Kinnick, Omaha, Nebr., November 2nd, 1938, Page Two. Such was not my intent, at least not in the thought of so many silly dressing room speeches that are an insult to a boy's intelligence. What pleased me, so very much, was the fact that Nile was the FIRST boy there to show response. I knew after the first 30 seconds that I was talking his language. His subsequent statements and the letter proved me to be right. I need not tell you how wonderful I think this boy of yours is. My talk to the boys at Minneapolis is to be different. In the main it is to be directed directly at the boys, calling them by name, and is to be given with the full staff, and some of the loyal team boosters there. If these kids need another vote of confidence, they are going to get a real one. In confidence, here is the tribute that I am going to pay to that boy of yours. I'm going to stop in front of his mat, and say: "Nile Kinnick, you came back into your own last Saturday. You were the boy of last year when you reached the heights, and from now on, with that flaming courage of yours, there isn't a team in the United States that can stop you". That is not a part of a "canned" dressing room speech. I wouldn't make one of them, if I could. It will come from the bottom of my heart, to a mighty swell boy. I do not know how I can ever express my real appreciation over this letter. It is so fine, that you makeme deeply and humbly grateful. Very truly yours, James W Fay JAMES W. FAY JWF-H.
