Thursday March 4, 1943 Dear George, Your letter came in this afternoon, and I hasten to answer it. Benson's victory over Prep, and the manner in which it was won, brings me almost as much joy as it does you. Assuming that you did a good job defensively, I gather that you gave a very fine account of yourself. Getting buckets in the crucial moments is all important. My hat is off to you. And in passing, I must observe that two for five from the guard position is not to be sneezed at. Now there is no reason why you guys shouldn't win out down at the auditorium. What I have advised you previously goes double for tournament play. Rebound fiercely at both ends of the court, tie it up if you can't get complete possession, control the apple all the time, maintain your poise, and be alert. Everything turns on this last point. Keep awake, heads up, this should be your watchword from opening whistle to final gun. Don't let the tension of tourney contest settle on you or your teammates. Exhibit and express a happy, buoyant relaxed and confident attitude throughout. Am betting you gents will be tough to beat. Extend my congratulations to R.V. and tell Corbaley to take it easy. Does the latter still jump up and yell and wave his derby everytime B.H.S. makes a basket? George, this last letter was much better; in fact it was good. Hope you will continue to make an effort along this line. A college student
