Monday March 8, 1943 Dear Folks, My plans for going to church in Boston yesterday didn't work out. A new order requiring that one half of the entire personnel must be on board at all times caused a complete revision of the liberty schedule. In fact they are tightening down all the way round. Judging from the number of air raid drills which have been held on the station, recently, and for other reasons which can't be enumerated, I think they are actually expecting some kind of enemy action along the coast in the near future. It hardly seems possible that Germany could make good her threats of bombing reprisal against the U.S., but it is quite evident that the Coastal Command is uneasy and on the alert. Our flying weather has been excellent most of the time during the past week or so, and we have been making the most of it. My gunnery marks continue about the same, perhaps, just a hair better. Still pretty punk, but I am encouraged and feel sure that before long I shall get the word. And even if the record on the sleeve is poor, I expect to be accurate in actual combat. Don't know how much notice will be given us before departure, probably
