If Ben feels the need of another suitcase when he comes home on leave he is quite welcome to it. When you are considering books for me remember that I am especially interested in the critical periods of U.S. and World History and the men who dominated the scene in those times. The British Empire and the evolution of the parliamentary system are subjects about which I want to know more. Some day a good, up-to-date set of encyclopedias must occupy my library. Now about this compass-there will not be one issued me as part of my personal equipment. Each of us will get a pistol and a hunting knife. A compass might or might not be of use to a man at sea in a rubber boat. On land it definitely would be of value. I appreciate your thought and would like to have the compass if it isn't too expensive and if it can be gotten without too much trouble. The pictures of Ben and Gus were just what I had in mind. Hope you can find some of mother and George.
