leisurely and comfortably. Someday I want to take mother to dinner at such a place. We will chat, dance a waltz or two, linger over our desserts, and then go to the theatre or the opera. Buying a Time, Life, and Sentinel I retired to my room fairly early, read until sleepy, then dropped off in peaceful slumber. This morning I wakened rather late, stayed in bed reading until 11 AM, finally hitting the street about noon. At a nearby bookstore I bought the gov't issued document "Peace and War," revealing intimate U.S.-Japanese relations from 1931-1941. Also I bought a text on Gregg shorthand thinking this time I might persevere until I mastered it. Dinty Moore's, by self-admission a "famous Boston eating place" had been recommended to me, so I took lunch there. It is located at the end of a dirty little alley off Washington St, but for all its unfavorable exterior appearance it is a delightful little dining establishment. The atmosphere is quiet, unhurried, the prices reasonable, the food excellent. Much to my surprise and pleasure, I noted murals reproduced from three of Grant Wood's paintings. If my memory serves rightly, they were, to wit, "Springtime in Town," "President's Birthplace," and "Stone City." After my filet mignon (emphasis on mignon) and deep dish apple pie had been consumed I proceeded leisurely up to the Wilbur Theatre.
