(It was heartening to find he managed to keep from fouling out. In the picture showing one of his fouls it looks as if faulty position made it almost unavoidable.) In view of his evident fine performance it is quite right that he should be accorded recognition on the second all-touring team - at least. My congratulations sonny boy!! But now for goodness sake bear down on your studies. I mean it! See just how sharp a mind you can develop, and strive for a good, extra good memory. As I go along that is the faculty I find that I need to improve most and it is largely a matter of making an effort over a period of years. Start right now. If from here on out you average a grade or two better in your studies I shall authorize Gus to give you $10 out of my account, otherwise your second place in the state will go unrewarded from this quarter. Mother, the compass has arrived, and it is a dandy. Thank you for your trouble and thoughtfulness. A recent sentinel also came in the other day. How about leave before we depart - I'm quite sure that none will be given. In fact we shall undoubtedly continue to train right up to the last minute.
