over the hills and eastward into the risen sun. With a favorable tail wind it only took us 40 minutes to make Quonset. We circled Bill's house once just to let his wife know he was back ok, tailed in over the Jamestown bridge, joined the traffic circle and landed. Would have given anything to have you all along. It was an exhilarating, thoroughly enjoyable hop. While eating supper Sat. night in Newburgh I noted by the calendar that it was April 3rd - and I thought of you Gus. Happy birthday, sonny boy, and lots of them. We were informed today that we are to get F6Fs after our shakedown cruise. You probably haven't heard much about this plane, and it would be best if you kept circumspectly quiet about what I might say concerning it; also about the P47s and the squire of Duchess County. The F6F is made by Grumman and stands in size between a F4F and a TBF. It has a 2000 hp Pratt-Whitney engine and is just about the best aircraft yet to come out of the US - or at least so we hear. Naturally the squadron is pretty happy over the prospect. Pappy, I wish you would save the Fortune magazines and mark any articles of particular interest and import. Also pick up for me a volume or two on Wilson and the League of Nations. Do you know who are the main guns in the farm bloc in
