directed me across the street to a little cleaning establishment. There a character by the name of Joe was getting scalper's prices for ducats which he had purchased in anticipation of a sell-out. I paid $3 for a seat in the grand tier and was glad to get it. The Met from the outside is a huge, dirty, unimpressive looking building, but within it is just as you have imagined it. The halls and lobbys of each floor are spacious, high ceilinged. The auditorium itself is immense flanked all the way round by a succession of five balconies, called Par-terre tier, grand tier, Dress circle, Family circle, and Balcony. The walls, carpets, upholstering, everything is a deep, luxurious maroon color. Miss Anderson was dressed in a beautiful, full length velvet gown of quiet green with a splash of silver extending diagonally across the front from waist to hem. She is a large well proportioned woman, with plain features. Her entrance was poised, graceful, and I thought she appeared profoundly conscious of her responsibility to her people as well as to her audience immediately out front. Most of the program was confined to classical pieces by the old masters-Handel, Schubert, Bach, etc-which she sang with great beauty and feeling. From where I sat she seemed to close her eyes and slightly knit her brows with intense concentration. Classical music
