on it to the happiness and benefit of all. Well, it is an idea-and not at all impossible. For me, specifically, Gus, I wish you would cagily and unobtrusively sound the political opinion of the men and women in different areas with whom you come in contact. In Iowa find out what they think of Hickenlooper, Wilson, Gillette, et al. Why they do or do not like them. What they think should be done for public benefit within the state borders, etc. Nationally, try to determine what are their convictions and hopes for the post war world. What they think of the different political candidates and so on. Shore up your observations and answers for the day when once again we can sit down and discuss them face to face. Would suggest you give no indications of your son's possible intentions. Had a letter by mail from Bob the other day. It was quite short and didn't say much. Rather think, however, that he is land based for the present somewhere in the South Pacific. Didn't sound as if he had seen any action. Enclosed is a money order for $60 which I want used for war bonds in addition to the monthly purchase I have previously directed. Starting this month my allotment should be sent to you folks, so keep an eye out.
