This task which lies ahead is adventure as well as duty, and I am anxious to get at it. I feel better in mind and body than I have for ten years, and am quite certain that I can meet the foe confident and unafraid. "I have set the Lord always before me; because he is my right hand. I shall not be moved." Our home and family life has been grand and fruitful, and it will be even better after this war is all over. All that we have been or shall be we boys owe to your affection, discipline, and guidance. Wherever we go, whatever we do, I know that our minds shall frequently flood with tender memories of the hearthside and with happy plans for the day when law and peace shall reign once again. Truly, we have shared to the full life, love, and laughter. Comforted in the knowledge that your thought and prayer go with us every minute, and sure that your faith and courage will never falter no matter the outcome, I bid you au revoir. Much love, Nile P.S. Mother's and grandma's good letters came in this afternoon's mail before I mailed this. Glad to learn of Ted and Lee's baby, also John and Jerry's-and Anne's, too, tsk, tsk. You write a beautiful letter, grandma, I
