(Quonset Point, R.I.) Sunday 10AM Jan. 3, 1943 Dear Folks, This is the first Sunday in 1943. How different the prospect from a year ago at this time! If things were to break just right, and there is every reason to hope that they will, the Allies may have Hitler pretty much on the run by spring. The magnificent armies of Stalin are knocking hell out of the Hun on the eastern front, and if we can win a decisive battle in Tunisia, particularly in the air, the end should be in sight. Any invasion of the continent will be awfully rough, but once we get a foothold and start to move in, Nazi resistance should crumble rather quickly. The whole dastardly regime is founded on fraud and monstrous lie. Confronted with impending doom its leaders will turn on each other and hasten the finish. That job done we can direct the full force of our might against Japan. If we strike at her upper body from China, Russia, Alaska, and the sea our task might not be as long as some would have us believe. The surprise and brilliance of the African blow would indicate our strategists won't be content with the long way home in the Pacific.
