U. S. NAVAL AIR STATION CORPUS CHRISTI. TEXAS Sunday p. m. Febr. 28, 1943 Dear Uncle Chas., Do you remember how well Nile did shooting the blue rocks when he was a cadet? I think that he wrote you about it and told you his score. I hope you can remember it, because I think that I did a little better than he did and would like some confirmation. 1 have been searching a long time for something that I could do better than he could, and so far swimming is the only sport that I think that I can beat him in. however, it may be that skeet is another one. The last day out on the skeet range I shot 50 rounds and got 17 out of the first 25 and 21 out of the last 25. I am not sure whether this beats Nile's best score or not, but for me it sure was a lot of fun to see those pigeons break. My only recollections of firing the shotgun much is a day down in the park with King and Nile, shooting at tin cans we would toss up in the air. They were as big as barrels and yet I did not even scratch one, and they were thrown right above me. Thirty-eight out of 50 surely would not bring home much turkey but I got a big kick out of getting that many. Strange as it may seem I could hit more on the skeet range than trap. I am now in the last stage of training before being commissioned and am flying patrol boats. It is different from anything so far and will be fine experience although I do not expect to fly sea planes for the marines. Should get out in a couple of months and have a leave for a couple of weeks. Hope to see you then. Yours, Ben
