told me of driving clear up into Canada for a fishing trip this summer and how they were going to drive up to Mitchell, So. Dak. for some pheasant hunting this weekend. The college is full of young men more anxious to finish their education than to serve in the armed forces. Every incident I have mentioned is quite understandable and in no way maliciously unpatriotic, but it hasn't indicated a spirit dedicated to winning the war. I hated to see and feel all this in my favorite town among my closest friends. Had I actually been on the firing line instead of having it comparatively easy in a training center I would have been contemptuous of what I saw. No wonder Clare Booth Luce proclaims that we "talk
