Monday Oct. 12, 1942 Dear Family, It is now 2030, and I am comfortably settled in my room at BOQ, Cecil Field. My luggage has arrived, everything is unpacked and stowed away in good order. Every Naval station I have been on has provided fine living quarters but this looks to be the best yet. Each man has a room all to himself furnished with all the conveniences of home - two tables, a chair, a fan, a fluorescent lamp, an inner spring bed, hot & cold running water, ample closet space, a 4 drawer chiffonier, radiators, screens on the windows, everything to be desired. It sounds pretty soft, and is; perhaps, too soft? Bob has the room on one side of me and Haugebak on the other - what could be nicer? Cecil Field is located about 25 or 30 miles southwest of Jacksonville and about 16 miles in the same direction from the main station. It has been used for primary squadron work much as Saufley Field was at Pensacola. In fact the squadron doesn't quit flying until tomorrow or the next day. There are about 200 primary trainers - Steermans and Ryans - which
