Saturday July 25, 1942 U.S. NAVAL AIR STATION MIAMI, FLORIDA Dear Grandma, It is hard to believe that I have been in training almost 8 months now. My schedule has been so full, time has passed so rapidly, I have hardly noted when one week ended and another started. I have had my somber moments, of course, but for the most part these past few months have been quite enjoyable. However, with my training drawing toward an end I am looking forward to leave and all that it includes - home, family, friends, laughter, peace, and quiet. The awful wheels of destiny may continue to grind out the world's history, but nothing can rob a man of his memories of the happy days and simple joys before the
