It isn't a problem of big words or stilted language, but rather of well balanced sentences, and continuity of thought. Letter writing is the best and most practical way of improving your vocabulary and clarity of expression if done with an eye to making each effort your best. So build up your correspondence. Write to a number of friends. Try to cultivate the art of forceful yet beautiful speech. Unhappily, my improvement hasn't been very fast, but what there has been I can attribute largely to an active correspondence. Remember, even the best ideas, the best impulses, are of no value to anyone else unless you can express yourself well.
