to recognize at a glance the nationality, type and class of the various warships involved in this war. For sea going craft we must learn to tell if it is a U.S., British, German, Italian, or Jap ship, whether it is a battleship, carrier, or cruiser, and of what class it is. For eg, the American battleship Washington of the North Carolina class, or the German pocket battleship Leutzow of the Scheer class. Since ships of the same class are sister ships and look exactly alike all we have to do is remember a name of a ship in that particular class. We base out recognition on three main points - number & type of masts, number & shape of stacks, & number of turrets. We practice with silhouettes thrown on the screen. We follow the same procedure with aircraft, making our own distinctions on the basis of shape, size, and position of wings, tail assembly, and fuselage. It is not too easy for any of the boys and
