May 10, 1942 Sunday aft. Dear Grandma: Bob and I have just returned from the beach where for two hours we lay basking in the sun, free for the moment from all responsibility, tension, and duty. How precious are the weekends - not for revelry, but for rest and a quiet thought or two. It is wonderful what just a 24 hour respite does for a man's body and mind. I usually am pretty well done in by Sat. afternoon, but a 12 hour sleep, church, sunbathing, and a brisk swim in the surf restores my energy and vigor. By tomorrow morning I shall be all set to go again. Since last writing you - oh, so long ago - I have taken up a good many more
