Monday 9-23-40 Dear Gus: Your fine letter and my trunk arrived today. Thanks for both. As usual you did a mighty fine job of packing and thoughtfully included everything that I had mentioned to you. I am glad to hear that Ben likes his room and that you and George are getting along ok in mother's absence. The more I am around the Law Commons the better I think I will like it. As I mentioned before the room is fine with plenty of closet space. The only drawback is that once again the bed is as hard as the kitchen floor. I got my law books today and arranged to purchase a little more elaborate study lamp with an extensible arm so that 1 can swing it around and read under it like a floor lamp even tho it fastens on the desk. I wrote Mitch to pick up the coupe at grandma's and check it over and that I would pick it up on Thurs. evenof this week. I think as you do that this will best fit my plans and I only hope that it won't rob you of a new oar for this year. If I had purchased down here I think, on the basis of what I know now, that I would have bought a 1941 club coupe-- a five passenger coupe--A Chevrolet. Not because I like it the best but because I could get the best deal on one of them. Some howor another the dealer down here figured out how he ould selllme one of those jobs for an even $600 which is plenty good. As for our coupe--I shall take care of the cost of the garage work in Adel and any expense thereafter including licenses and insurance. If you are interested in some cash right now I will give you $l25 to relinquish your interest in said coupe. It is worth more than that considerably I know on a tradein-- on the other hand that is about all I would want to pay for it. I f you don't want to do that then we shall figure that thetitle is yours anytime you want to exercise it. I am not trying to get mercenary with you as you well know-- it won't make a bit of differnce to me one way or another nor probably to you--but I just thought of that angle if you wanted to get some cash for it. Things are going fine down here and I think that I shall be able to get along with both ends of my obligations. Tell George to bear down on his school work--that effort now will well repay him in the years to come. Love SB Enclosed is a clipping & a letter with a copy of the reply I made. Just thought you might be interested
