THE STATE UNIVERSITY OF IOWA IOWA CITY DEPARTMENT OF ATHLETICS DIVISION OF PHYSICAL EDUCATION Sunday 8:30 pm 11-3-'40 Dear Family: Ones more I sit down to bang you off a hasty, ill-organized jumble of news, etc. First of all an abject apology for sending the laundry late--1 know how much trouble it cause you and I assure you it won't happen again--how I neglected to do it 1 don't know--tho I did get it off before your letter arrived. I shall send the 4 Nebr. tickets on Tues. of this week and the price for your two friends is 2.75$ each. Whoops there I just checked for sure and they are $2.50 each.--sorry. Soon we will have to be making some plans for getting my overcoat down here and my heavy jacket--possibly I can find someone going out to the game who will stop and pick them up if y ou will have them ready, I would like very much to come out to the game and tentatively planned on doing so but now that plans for going to Notre Dame game have culminated I don't think 1 had better plan to come inasmuch as there will be outlines due shortly after I return from Notre Dame. Celia sounded rather enthusiastic about the plans and Aunt Mary has promised me the use of their car for the weekend so it should prove to be a lot of fun. And I will be ready for a little--the gallavantin around I have been doing this last year makes it even harder to settle down than I thought it would. Heard the best daggone lecture last Sunday that I have heard for a long time--very, very good. Wish that you all could have been here. The Iowa football team seems to be without the nec. poise and spirit in the clutches and whn the going gets tough. The passing of Jim Youel and his kicking were highly encouraging in yesterday's game. If Gilliard hadn't dropped two touchdown passes Ia. would have won. Green is a great runner but the blocking isn't very hot. It is hard to see how they are going to beat Nebr. but you can never tell. There is only one game that I would really like to play in this year and that is down at ND. I fancy the boys will lift up for that one--I sure hope so. Anderson is proving a much better loser than I thought possible in t he man. He really is doing a fine job of carrying on in every respect. There are several of the boys who aren't playing quite as well as last year notably among whom is Al Coupee though I understand he did pretty well up at Minn. Bob Hogan is planning to go out to the Nebr. game--he is meeting Barbara Miller's sister in Omaha--he met her when he went up to Soo City with me the latter part of Sept. I would like to be in on the same deal but 1 had to make a choice --which I have--I hope it turns out to be the best. Anyhow I told Bob to drop up and see you, Gus, if he had a chance on Fri or Sat. whenever he arrives. So act like you have met him which you have--he is the boy who started the"out behind the barn story you know. Pretty nice guy. Yes, Waymack used my speech and I am enclosing another letter which I received from him. Some outfit from New York who puts out a compilation called Vital Speeches has written for a copy of the speech. If Waymack ever gets around to returning it I shall send it to them How they ever got wind of it I don't know--I rather think the remarks I made apart from the text in Davenport were just as good or better than that on the written sheet --I wish that I had time to put them down. The other night I had my first experience at master of ceremonie ing
