Sunday evening, November 10, 1940 Dear SB: This will be anateempt to gather up the fragments of news of the past few days, just to bring the calendar up to date, momentarily. The tickets arrived and I distributed the upper balcony seats to the cash customers and kept the choice mid-field ducats for home consumption. Thank you forthe service. The day here started with rain and seemed like a bad football setting, but the rain stopped before game time. The cover was take n off just before the game started and the field appeared to be in pretty good condition. Hermie slipped a couple of times but I didn't see any Iowa boy lose his footing. FW called the field sloppy, but it must have been dew on his specs. His account of the contest was up to par, and I shall try to enclose it. The Iowa play was rather uninspired until Burkett made his run. From then on the Iowa spirit was much better and there was hope to the last. It was a satisfactory game, tho I shall not be happy until I see one of the Iowa schools lick the sox off of that outfit. Friday night mother and I went to the Iowa dinner, after deciding earlier that we would not. We were glad for having gone and had a good time. Eric Wilson sat by your mother and they had a good visit. George was with us also. I sat beside one of our S-T named Joiner from Maquoketa. He had a boy in your chapter last year. We alsosaw Dad Schroeder, Bruce Mahan, Mr. and Mrs. Lieb, Lee Cochran and his assistant Putman. Eddie came in late and stayed a short time but came back to our table for a chat. I had stopped at the Creighton gym about three o'clock Friday afternoon, but the team had not yet arrived, so I chatted with Shane for a few minutes and did not stay for the warm-up. Bob Hogan nor Tate showed. I would have taken the opportunity to shake Tate loose from those pictures that he promised last spring. In the game, Green looked very good ad Youel showed promise. He throws a nice pass but he wasn't hitting them very well. The Nebraska line rushed him hard all afternoon. The ends looked good and Mike pl ayed a fine game. I believe the boys can play good ball if they can keep the fire going. This afternoon, late, Maine and Betty Dodson called for your coats and we had a nice chat. Maine seemed like a good gent and the young lady displays pulchritude and charm in an unusual degree. This is the second time that I have seen her and I will hold a date open most any time for a return engagement. He stated that he had picked up your Prestone in Adel. I recently learned that Prestone is not guaranteed for more than one season, so you should be careful to have it tested for strength. It must be tested when warm, you know, Consult your favorite service man. The other day when I had a heater installed I left the car at a small garage in Benson, and did not tell them that Prestone was in the radiator. When I called for the vehicle it was with some astonishment that I learned that the mechanic had blithely drained it into the sewer. I complained and got a refill of new stuff at half price. Partly my fault for not warning them, I assume. No work at the bank tomorrow, so Geo and I shall install the storm sash and do some other little chores in anticipation of the winter shut-in. No school, and Geo says two days off next week for Thanksgiving. We have the
