Yes, mother please send my a quarterly--and what would you think of my volunteering in the summer?? Mighty fine that Ted is going back to Philadelphia(National squash tournament)--wouldn't be surprised if he cleaned up. Great athlete and fine competitor. Had a letter from Hobbs the other day telling me about Ted's going back and also enclosing a picture. Bob is having a marvelous time and regrets in no way whatsoever that he made the move--in fact wishes that he had done it much sooner. Might go out there this summer. As I mentioned in my last letter every now and then I pull down my quotation book and leisurely thumb thru it--some of the sayings are wonderful. The other nite I ran into some of G B Shaws stuff. Boy he is a master of satire and sharp-edged observations. To wit: "You don't learn to hold your own in the world by standing on guard, but by attacking and getting well hammered yourself." "I have to live for others and not for myself; that's middle class morality" "The fickleness of women I love is only equaled by the infernal constancy of the women who love me" "This is the true joy in life, the being used for a purpose recognized by yourself as a mighty one; the being thoroughly worn out before you are thrown on the scrap heap; the being a force of Nature instead of a feverish selfish little clod of ailments and grievances complaining that the world will not devote itself to making you happy." There are some fine articles in the Reader's Digest this month I would suggest that you get a hold of a copy by all means. Especially the one by Archibald MacLeish called "Look to the Spirit Within You" and also many others --the one about John Barrymore is good and the one about Hitler at Berchtesgaden is interesting and the book supplement is idyllic, etc. I am enjoying the subscription you gave me more than you can know--it is about the only outside reading I can squeeze in. Would be glad to hear from you anytime you can get around to it. Yours, sb Please - 2 towels in next laundry
