Omaha, Nebraska
September 8, 1941
Dear sons:
This a sample of the writing on  Ben's new typewriter, and it is very nice.
By the way, Ben, we found your pen a short while
after you left.    It was on the walnut table by the front
door, under some papers.    Mother will bring it over I hope.
It seems evident that we shall have to do something about
the margin stop.    I will have  Ed Glasgow look into it.
Don't forget to write  be    Mr. Hayward.  Five bucks ought to
be worth a short note, at least.
Another summer soon gone; too soon.  Mother believes it will
be the last one that the family will be together for such
a length of time.    Maybe so.  We shall see; and all of us
must see that it isn't.    At least no more so than must be.
Had a short note from Clarke, saying that the young daughter
will have the name PORTIA VAN METER.  Entirely appropriate.
You will be paying personal respects later in the week, no
doubt.
A letter from grandma states that Fred and Mable are coming
back in October, probably the early part, as the Moss clan
is having a reunion in the latter part of the month, at the
time of Barbara's marriage.
George matriculated this aft, and seemed to stand it very
well.    One of his subjects will be geometry.    Perhaps I
can lend some assistance there, as it always was my dish;
at least in the rudimentary stages.   Never delved in solid
nor analyt.    Just plain geo.
Nile, we assume that you are done with the algebra, and
will lay aside the book, exercises, etc.    You did not open
some of the lessons returnde and did not send some that you
had completed.   If you have other instructions, please impart.
