Tuesday - Sept 30 1941 Dear Folks: Iowa looked very poor against Drake as you must know. The second team which we started did nothing except sit back & let Drake score in the first three minutes. The first outfit when we did get them in there didn't do a whole lot better. If it hadn't been for Mertes & Walker I don't know what the outcome would have been. There is no doubt that we are terribly weak at left end unless Parker comes through. Apart from that weakness it is hard to put your finger on just what is wrong. Mainly, I think the boys were just fat-headed and underestimated Drake. It must be admitted that the Drake boys were very courageous
