Tomorrow noon I am scheduled to make a short talk before the quarterback club in Boone, Iowa. I didn't make the arrangements myself, and didn't want to go very badly, but Dad Schroeder wanted me to and in view of the raise in salary there wasn't much I could do. I plan to drive to D. Moines tonight and stay all night with Kingsley and Mary Jan.e It may be that I will get in in time to look up B arbara Miller or Celia Peairs, if I care to. Tomorrow night I am A taking Bibba Charlton to see the University play, "the Male Animal. It is supposed to be quite good. Jim George is coming up this weekend and we had planned to goout together, but of course all that is now impossible. Billy [Stewart] is going to ask him to stay over and go out with us Sunday night. I hope that he will feel that he can. I haven't seen him for quite some time now. Ken Pettit who played end for Iowa two years went to Kansas City last week and enlisted inthe Navy Air Corps. He will be in the same class with me which will make it more enjoyable for both of us. I am fully ready to go anytime now. The football season is beginning to drag. It is hard to see how it is going to be any fun from here on out. As I plan it now I want to drive out to Omaha for the Nebraska game rather than take the train with the boys, and then not return to Iowa City at all following the close of the season. I think it can be worked out that way. That would give me 8 or ten days at home before reporting toKansas City. I suppose you folks are planning to go down to that game. If so you had better let me know as soon as possible how many tickets you will want. Glad to hear from you, George, and learn that you are a hunter of note. 1 cannot remember that I ever successfully shot at anything except a pigeon, now and then. I have not heard from Ben for quite awhile. I presume that he is getting along alright although quite busy no doubt. It may be that I will get to see him tomorrow for. a little while. Do you still get the Kiplinger letter, Gus? The past two have been quite revealing. It looks as if the U.S. is finally getting the decks cleared for action. It is about time, 1 don't see how it could be otherwise. From what the K. letter says about car output my little job should command a pretty decent price if I have to sell it when I get my commission. I trust that al 1 is as well with you folks as it is with me. Love , nile
