Nile Kinnick correspondence, January-December 1941

1941-11-05: Back

Illinois has a very tricky offense and were very hard to scout.    I think
that I have done a pretty good job, however, and the boys should be pretty
"hep" to what they use by the time Sat.  rolls around.     There is a possibility
that I shall be  sent to Lincoln to scout the Nebr.-Pitt.  game a week from Sat.
I should hate to miss the Minn,  game here at home and the weekend activities,
particularly,  since I wasn't here for Homecoming.    However,  it would be very
nice to see you folks again.    Its hard to realize that there are only three more
games, and then my connection with football and college life will be severed
for quite some time to come.     I am getting anxious for this Navy flying, however,
so I sahll be leaving with no misgivings or backward glances.
As I told you some time ago I had a letter from Butler.    I replied
at some length,  and lo,  and behold, this morning I received a long epistle
from Louise.     It was very interesting.    She told me about here doings for
the past few years and all about her husband, etc.    I shall send it along to
you after I had time to make an answer.
Yes, mother, I bet you are truly enjoying your Bible class. I shall
be interested to hear what you have to say about it.     But don't bother to
send me any books now.    I am too busy to read much--or at least,  I am not
doing much of that  sort of thing even if I do have the time,
I shall be coming out to the Nebr.  game with the squad,  of course,.
If it is alright with Dad Schroeder I shall just stay on after the game and
not come back.    I hope that it will be ok by him,  especially,  since I have a
talk to make in Sioux City on Mnday Nov.  24th.    Should that work out I will
drive to Omaha,   rather than take the train, and bring all my stuff with me.
I have no definite plans,  as yet,  for that weekend.    However, there will be
a lot of kids from the University going out and I may want to plan a get together
of some kind.    Could we make room for a couple or three friends if necessary.
Probably no women but you can never tell.
