1. This bit of doggerel was written by Charles F. Clarke, Nile's "Uncle Charlie", probably about 1940 or 1941, evidently during the period that Nile assisted with the coaching at Iowa U. I do not remember the episode of the Green Slacks b ut the theme illustrates that Nile didn't always consider his personal dress as the most important point in his daily life. NCK Sr. O his mother dressed him up for everyday, He wouldn't wear a thing but dirty gray, He'd come all the way from college Where he'd got a lot of knowledge, And had worn the clothes the bally fashions say But now he was alone at home and free, And he'd wear old clothes you bet, or he would see, But his mother was for fashion And wouldn't let him cash in On the freedom which he practiced with such glee. She took him to the clothes emporium, And in green slacks invested quite a sum, She said "you've got to wear 'em, And be careful not to tear 'em So you'll look your part and not be like a bum".
