THE CHICAGO DAILY NEWS 400 WEST MADISON STREET CHICAGO. ILLINOIS Sports Dept. February 2, 1940 Dear Nile, Many thanks for your letter and for the pictures and programs. I'm glad the eastern tour was a big success, though I'm beginning to wonder what you'll do with all those trophies unless you build 'em a house. It is a rare treat for anybody in my business to hear the word "thanks" from any college athlete. I appreciate your view on what I may have done for you, but as I told you before, you made my job very easy. You had a great season and deserved the recognition--every bit of it. I hope you'll still be able to nail that Phi Beta Kappa key and the Harvard scholarships. Accomplishments of that sort by a fellow who can also play top flight football will do much to stop the flow of criticism directed at football by such as Chicago's Mr. Hutchins. Thanks again for the things you sent. If you are ever in Chicago, please call me and let me have luch with you. I'm going to the Coast Feb. 19 and will be back the middle of April. If you get any definite line on what you're going to do next year I'd appreciate hearing about it. Please say hello to Eddie and the coaching staff for me. And to you, my very best regards and wishes for continued success. Sincerely, Jim K jim kearns P.S. I finally remembered that picture of You and Eddie and mailed a couple of prints today.
